The Buzzards Bay Regatta is one of the largest multi-class regattas in the US with approximately 450 boats and 1200 sailors across fifteen different classes. Boats and sailors come from all across the Northeast and the country as they look to enjoy the renowned sailing conditions, competition and race management. 2008 will mark the 36th anniversary of the BBR. This year it is being hosted by the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, MA and Community Boating Center (co-host) in New Bedford, MA. Racing takes place in 5 circles throughout the north end of Buzzards Bay, with the large Laser fleet sailing out of historic Fort Taber in New Bedford. Après-sailing festivities take place on the grounds of the Beverly Yacht Club with tents, food, drinks and entertainment over the three day event. Come join the fun! The merchandising committee has been hard at work to bring you tees and polos in both traditional cotton and popular high-tech fabrics styled for both men and women. Board shorts and board skirts are available in BBR colors, and sailors have two different hat styles to choose from. Place your order online by July 29 and it will be delivered to you when you pick up you registration material, or you can purchase on site throughout the weekend. Remember that proceeds from the regatta and merchandise go to support youth sailing programs at New Bedford Community Boating and other regional organizations.
We hereby pledge our commitment to a clean ocean by participating in Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas program. By doing so, we vow to fulfill, and encourage others to fulfill, the Best Practices and Operating Instructions for a Clean Regatta as set forth by Sailors for the Sea (SFS). We will make it our responsibility to insure that the site of our regatta, yacht club and/or marina remains clean and free of debris during the course of, and following the close of, the race. ![]()
